A year ago, I would have hired someone to move my website from Squarespace to GitHub. This past weekend, I did it myself.
I'm not a developer. But I was willing to learn.
AI didn't magically build my website. It didn't write perfect code on the first try. It definitely didn't stop me from breaking things a few times along the way.
What it did do was help me understand concepts I'd never learned, troubleshoot problems as they came up in real time, and give me the confidence to keep going instead of giving up and calling a developer.
That's when it hit me: we've been asking the wrong question about AI.
The question isn't, will AI replace people?
The real question is, what becomes possible when people have AI helping them learn?
That's the future I'm genuinely excited about. Not replacing expertise. Creating more capable people, business owners who can do things themselves that used to require hiring it out, at a fraction of the cost and on their own timeline.
If there's a project you've been quoted thousands of dollars for, and you've been sitting on it because the price felt too high, it might be worth asking what part of it you could learn to do yourself, with the right support along the way.
