Start Small, Pick Your Mode, and Fund the Training

October 5, 2026 · Jess Pischel

Three ideas from my recent work with leaders, HR teams, and operations teams: how to start with AI without the overwhelm, how to move from AI that suggests to AI that does, and how Ohio employers can request AI training through TechCred.

Start small and stay narrow. After a panel at getWITit Cleveland/Akron's WITCON, the takeaway was simple. AI moves too fast for anyone to master all of it, so pick one task and one tool, and get good at it. Confidence comes from real wins on real work, and then you expand.

For teams, this is also the most reliable path to measurable ROI. A narrow pilot gives you a clean before and after, which is a number your leadership team will believe.

Chat, Cowork, or Code? Claude works in three modes. Chat is for thinking, Cowork is for doing, and Code is for building. For most managers, the move that matters is going from Chat to Cowork, where AI stops handing you ideas and starts handing back finished reports, spreadsheets, and organized folders.

One habit makes switching painless. Before you leave a chat, ask for a handoff brief: the goal, what was decided, the constraints, and what done looks like. Paste it into the next mode and skip the re-explaining.

Ohio employers: AI training through TechCred. Human First AI Consulting is a registered school with the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools and a TechCred eligible training provider. Our AI & Culture Integration with Human First AI Consulting credential is built for leaders, HR teams, and operations teams who need AI to fit how their people actually work.

The credential is not yet on the state's eligible credential list, so employers request it through TechCred's Credential Not Listed process. The current application window closes October 30. Reimbursement amounts and approval are set by the State of Ohio, and the official guidelines are at development.ohio.gov/techcred. You can also read what Ohio employers should know about requesting this training.
